Projects
Currently we have four projects aimed at improving the lives of women and girls living on less than $2 a day. Our projects recognize the significant impact that technology can serve in bringing the greatest advantage to informal workers around the globe.
Living Wage Project
The Living Wage Project was launched in 2008 with the aim of creating one methodology for the calculation of living wages around the world. We are building a web-based platform to capture cost of living data from around the world and calculate living wages. This data will be used to change government policies; assist multi-national companies challenged with the issue of paying workers living wages and bring new negotiating power to workers. View Project
Fair Wage Guide
Launched in 2005, the Fair Wage Guide software has brought a new level of transparency and accountability to the fair trade sector by creating one common methodology for the calculation of fair wages for craft producers. The free, online software can be accessed from anywhere in the world and assists craft producers and buyers with determining how much the worker should be paid for their time. The Fair Wage Guide is now a part of the Worldofgood.com by ebay marketplace and is being used by mainstream brands including Hallmark. View Project
SMS Labor Link
SMS Labor Link, our newest project, is using the latest mobile phone technology to bring needed information to low-income homeworkers in global supply chains. There are more than 300 million homeworkers around the world earning less than $2 a day. They do everything from assembly flip flops and sewing buttons onto shirts to assembling computer parts. They lack access to information about wages, health and safety issues and child labor. For the first time, SMS Labor Link is closing the information divide for this often invisible population.
